Crosby named Team Canada captain for 2026 Olympics
Sidney Crosby will captain Canada’s men’s hockey team at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, with Cale Makar and Connor McDavid serving as alternate captains.
Crosby, a two-time Olympic gold medallist who also wore the “C” in 2014, said he is “grateful for the opportunity to represent Canada” and called it an honour to lead a team filled with strong leadership.
Canada opens preliminary-round play against Czechia on February 12, followed by games against Switzerland on February 13 and France on February 15. The men’s tournament runs February 11 to 22 in Milan.
Canada claims first medal
Canada is on the medal board at the Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina.
Valérie Maltais earned bronze in the women’s 3,000-metre speed skating event, securing the country’s first podium finish of the Games.
The La Baie, Quebec native finished behind Italy’s Francesca Lollobrigida, who claimed gold with an Olympic-record performance, and Norway’s Ragne Wiklund, who took silver.
Fellow Canadians Isabelle Weidemann and Laura Hall also competed, placing fifth and 13th, respectively.
