The City of Kenora is looking at a $2 million dollar gap in tenders for its sewer and water projects this year.
Greg Breen is the Director of Engineering and Infrastructure and says they initially budgeted $3 million for sewer and water work, but the tenders came in significantly higher.
“Think about some contingency, on top of that, for unseen conditions, that really jumps the budget required to award the whole project, up into the over $5 million mark,” Breen told council this week at their Committee of the Whole meeting.
“And so there a little over $2 million dollar difference there.”
The project is replacing the water and wastewater piping renewal project in the Rideout area.
In a report that will be looked at the open meeting of city council next week, several options are being looked at, including re-tendering the project, with a reduced scope.
That’s the preferred option.
Others include doing the work in longer timeframe, stretching it into 2026, or defer it altogether and put it up for discussion in 2026.
