The country will soon have its 24th prime minister of Canada.
Governor General Mary Simon will preside over a swearing-in ceremony on Friday for Mark Carney.
The ceremony, to be held at 11 a.m. ET at Rideau Hall, will also see the new prime minister’s cabinet sworn in.
Carney was named the federal Liberal leader on Sunday, with around 85 per cent of the vote.
He takes over for Justin Trudeau, who announced in January that he was stepping down.
Parliament is prorogued until March 24, but some have speculated that Carney will call an election before that.
Currently, the next federal election is scheduled for October.
