A 70-year-old man is dead following a traffic accident on Highway 1 near Winnipeg.
The RCMP says they were notified about a driver going the wrong way down the Trans-Canada Highway about eight kilometers east of Deacon’s Corners.
Around 5:30 police were called to investigate a fatal motor vehicle accident.
Police say a vehicle was traveling east on a westbound lane of the highway when it struck another car head one.
The RCMP says the 70-year-old was the lone person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 44-year-old driver of the other car was transported to Winnipeg Hospital with serious injuries.
The westbound lanes were closed for several hours this morning and traffic had to be detoured while officers conducted their investigation.
